How to reduce your waste when you have NO time
The key thing that holds many people back from reducing their waste is believing they don’t have enough time, and that more sustainable = less convenient. Most of us have very busy lives, especially if we have a family, so convenience tends to be the priority. But the truth is the planet has had about as much as it can take of our ‘convenience’. We are fast approaching the ecological limits of our disposable plastic consumption so we really need to start rethinking what we consume and take more responsibility for the waste we generate. But the good news is we don’t need to quit our jobs or give up our weekends to live more sustainably. We just need to move past our misconceptions and follow a few simple guidelines.
It’s time to rethink ‘convenience’
Single-serve, snack-size and pre-prepared food are some of the many over-packaged items that most of us buy at the supermarket each week in the name of convenience, because we just don’t have the time for anything else (or so we think). But a lot of ‘convenience’ foods are just marketing hype, over-processed and a waste of money that we’d be better off without and there are healthier, less wasteful alternatives that don’t require us to fit extra hours in our day.
