I agree Pontus :( Don’t quote me on 9 times out of 10 but I wouldn’t be far off. Just because most cities don’t have litter baskets inside stormwater pits (i.e. the vertical rectangular hole / horizontal grate along a street gutter), or gross pollutant traps where stormwater drains enter waterways, or litter booms in their waterways, and if they do it’s only here and there. And even these devices usually don’t capture smaller items like cigarette butts. At least that’s the case in Australia. And there is probably no pollution control in places like China or India, whose rivers contribute most plastic pollution to our oceans.

I will be taking this issue to my local politicians very soon :) although I see this approach as only part of the solution — ultimately we need to stop using disposable plastic in the first place, i.e. addressing the issue at its TRUE source.
